Radar open letter following assault on staff member

Radar weekly sent an open letter to top Serbian officials following the assault on its journalist Vuk Cvijic by the head of a pro-regime tabloid on Wednesday, waring of a dangerous spiral of violence.

The open letter was addressed to President Aleksandar Vucic, Prime Minister Milos Vucevic, Internal Affairs Minister Ivica Dacic and Information and Telecommunications Minister Dejan Ristic.

“We and other independent media have been warning that we as a society have entered into a dangerous spiral of violence which is unfortunately stimulated by the authorities and media close to the authorities. The propaganda twisting of facts and cover-up of the state of society cannot hide and stop the violence which is growing daily, threatening an unstoppable escalation,” the letter said and demanded a full investigation into the assault and punishment for the perpetrators.

“We will not allow the assault on Vuk Cvijic to become one more in a series of unsolved cases and will inform all relevant local and international organizations and professional associations of the assault on one of the leading investigative journalists in Serbia,” it added.

The letter said that Vucic is responsible for the rise in violence as the holder of absolute power.
