The Cenzolovka media freedom portal said on Tuesday that the Serbian Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM) initiated proceedings against the pro-regime TV Pink over its broadcasting of a fake video of an opposition leader.

TV Pink, whose owner Zeljko Mitrovic is a staunch supporter of the authorities, aired a fake video of an alleged statement by Go-Change opposition movement leader Savo Manojlovic. The movement issued a statement saying the video was AI-generated.

Cenzolovka said confirmation that the proceedings were initiated by the REM Council came from that body’s member Visnja Arandjelovic who said Manojlovic’s appearance on a talk show was used to fake his statement which was aired on the TV Pink main evening news but without a disclaimer.

A TV Pink representative is now due to appear before the REM Council.

The REM is a body which is supposed to be independent but which has failed to take action against pro-regime stations which clearly violated its rules and the law.
