The logo of the non-governmental organization Center for Information, Criticism, and Action – QIKA from Pristina, which also operates as feminist media, was vandalized today. In their statement, QIKA reported that the vandalism of the organization’s logo occurred after the broadcasting of the show “Colors of Love,” and the display of the LGBTIQ+ community flag on the balcony of QIKA.

For the Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AJK), this act is unacceptable, shameful, and a direct attack on human rights, freedom of expression, and media. “This is becoming a worrying trend and it has happened just days after Prishtina hosted another successful Pride Parade,” stated Xhemajl Rexha, Chair of AJK. “QIKA has been attacked earlier for similar motives, and it is a source of great concern. We urge the authorities to conduct swift investigations into the case, as this endangers the staff and impacts the very important work they do as a rare online feminist platform,” he added.

The vandalism of QIKA’s logo contributes to the language of hatred and verbal attacks against individuals of the LGBTIQ+ community. In addition, it also portrays the harsh environment in which women journalists have to perform their professional duties. Moreover, this is not the first time this organization has been the target of similar attacks.

The SafeJournalists Network, which represents media professionals in the Western Balkans, urges the Police to investigate this case. Network also calls for tolerance and respect for different groups and their legal rights.

The SafeJournalists Network will inform relevant national and international stakeholders about this case.

Each attack on journalists is an attack on the public interest, democracy, and the rights of all citizens.
