Project name: Legal and psychological support for journalists in Serbia

Donor: Civil Rights Defenders

Implementation period: 1.5.2024 – 31.12.2024

IJAS role: project leader

Project partners: /

Budget: SEK 250,000

This project enables IJAS to provide free legal and psychological counseling to journalists and media at risk in Serbia. The goal of the project is to improve media freedom and freedom of expression in Serbia.

Main activities:

  1. IJAS  hires a lawyer specialized in media law and safety of journalists. The lawyer, who has a history of excellent cooperation with IJAS, will represent our target groups: members of IJAS- journalists and media who report in the public interest, but most often they themselves and their media organizations are not in a position to finance the defense.
  2. IJAS engages the domestic organization International Aid Network (IAN), which brings together psychologists and psychotherapists (and has a history of excellent cooperation with IJAS) to provide individual and group psychotherapy sessions to journalists (regardless of whether they are members of IJAS). IAN’s mission is to support those who have experienced human rights violations, as well as marginalized and vulnerable groups, in order to develop personal potential for a decent life in peace.
