The Serbian State TV (RTS) aired a total of 24 seconds of a report on the protests against Rio Tinto’s plans to mine lithium on Wednesday evening’s main news show, the Nova.rs portal said.
Protests were held in four places in Serbia on Wednesday, continuing the series of gatherings in different places to show discontent with the openng of a lithium mine in the Jadar river valley.
According to the portal, the RTS aired 13 minutes of live coverage of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic who visited the construction site of a railway station in the town of Vrbas outside Novi Sad.
It said that the 24-second report at the end of the 30-minute main evening news focused on the protet in Novi Sad which is said to have been one of the biggest protest gathering in that city in the past 20 years.
Nova.rs recalled that the RTS did something similar in 2023 during the Serbia Against Violence protests in Belgrade.
