N1’s Novi Sad correspondents Ksenija Pavkov and Sanja Kosovic have won an award given by the Independent Journalists’ Society of Vojvodina (NDNV) for their reporting on the protests following the collapse of concrete awning that claimed 15 lives at Novi Sad Railway Station on November 1.

A press release said that the NDNV decided not to follow its tradition and organize a competition for the award but would award reporters in Novi Sad who “raised the standards of the profession”. “Reporters from several news desks have been reporting tirelessly on events in the city for the past 3 months. The street has become their news desk and they have become heroes of journalism,” it said.

“We believe that the job those journalists did in reporting the tragedy and ensuing student uprising over the regime’s attempt to avoid responsibility has contributed significantly to raising awareness and forming a critical public. Their contribution to journalism and society is huge,” the NDNV said.

The NDNV annual award goes to 10 journalists this year and will be presented on Friday, February 8.
