The Serbian Parliament’s Culture and Information Committee adopted a list of candidates for the country’s electronic media regulator on Friday.
The list of candidates and nominators for the Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM) Council was adopted solely by ruling coalition MPs after the opposition members walked out of the meeting.
The committee also set a June 5 deadline for the 11 candidates and 7 nominator organizations to file missing documents.
The opposition MPs walked out after Committee Chairwoman Sanja Brankovic Jefic refused to allow a vote on candidates who are viewed as disputable.
Opposition MP Radomir Lazovic also demanded the removal of Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) MP Nebojsa Bakarec accusing him of discrimination against one of the candidates. Bakarec is known for his fierce attacks on the opposition.
