Nova TV said on Friday that its Novi Sad correspondent Sanja Ignjatovic Eker received serious threats after she was targeted by a pro-regime TV station.

Ignjatovic Eker received the threats on social media after Informer TV started a campaign over her reporting on the August 14 protest in Novi Sad, Nova TV said adding that the pro-regime TV’s description of her reporting included the worst verbal abuse.

It said that the campaign against her received an additional impetus from President Aleksandar Vucic during a live phone call to Informer as well as Internal Affairs Minister Ivica Dacic at a news conference after the protest. “The threat and insults directed at Sanja Ignjatovic Eker and her family came right after that, including threats to kill her child,” Nova TV said.

The independent TV station is demanding an immediate end to the campaign targeting its correspondent, an investigation to identify and arrest the people making the threats and public apologies by Vucic and Dacic for their statements which contributed to the campaign against her. “The appropriate courts will deal with the responsibility of the the media company behind Informer TV,” it added.

Nova TV recalled that this is the 3rd time in the past 2 months that it’s reporters were targeted over their coverage of protests. “Nova TV is calling for an end to that and calls top state officials to stop taking part in campaigns offending and attacking journalists and staff at this station,” it said.
