In an interview with Danas daily, Matic said that professional journalists are unwelcome at these events because “the government consistently attempts to distort reality.”
“They manipulate everything – from the number of attendees to the messages and demands of participants, and even the nature of the protests. Professional journalists reveal a reality that starkly contrasts with the government’s propaganda, which is spread through tabloid media and selective reporting by public media services,” Matic explained.
Commenting on police conduct, Matic said a “new standard” was set during protests in November last year when police began ignoring attacks on journalists.
“Thugs from the security detail at (ruling) Serbian Progressive Party rallies attacked journalists without interference, and police officers present failed to respond appropriately, even when journalists filed on-the-spot reports. Since mid-2025, intervention units have begun using violence against demonstrators, and both male and female journalists are also targeted,” Matic added.
