The first 35 years of “Vremena”: Always independent, never neutral

At the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the weekly Vreme, editor-in-chief Filip Schwarm said that during its three and a half decades of existence, the editorial office “has always been on the right side of history” and that this will remain its guide in the future.

The editor-in-chief of the Vreme weekly Philip Schwarm he said at the celebration of the 35th anniversary our newspaper that during its three and a half decades of existence, the editorial office “has always been on the right side of history” and will remain so in the future.

“We are trying to continue like this for the next 35 years. It was never easy, it was just a little more difficult or very difficult. Time is proof that an idea is more than matter – it was not just a job as a journalist, but a calling,” Schwarm said.

He emphasized that Vreme has stood up for human and civil rights and for a life worthy of man since its foundation.

“Each jubilee serves to brag, but also to acknowledge mistakes that were the result of too much passion or human error, but never the desire to offend someone,” he added.

Švarm pointed out that “no one can see the recent history of Serbia without Vremen” and that he is especially proud that young people recognize the importance of that newspaper.

“The girls and boys who are walking to Novi Sad tonight are aware of Vreme and we share with them a struggle that is difficult but persistent. It is a great thing for a media to be recognized by young people,” said Švarm, saying that Vreme has never given up, nor will it ever give up.

At the ceremony, the annual Vremena awards were awarded to prosecutors Bojana Savović, Predrag Voštinić and the dean of PMF from Novi Sad, Srđan Romčević.
