The Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (NUNS) filed a complaint with the police Internal Affairs Sector over the failure of police officers to react to the assault on an N1 crew at the Caciland regime-supporter tent camp on November 20.

N1 reporter Maja Nikolic and cameraman Ivan Pavlovic were first confronted by a man who came out of the camp enclosure, threatening them and ordering Pavlovic to stop recording before grabbing the camera and throwing it to the pavement. Police officers deployed at the enclosure failed to react and the man, later identified as a convicted murderer, walked back into the tent camp.

The NUNS complaint said the police officers violated laws as well as a police-prosecution agreement and an agreement between the Internal Affairs Ministry (MUP) and media organizations both signed in 2016.

It said that the lack of a reaction by police officers allowed violations of human rights and liberties guaranteed by the constitution. The NUNS said the police officers behavior was inappropriate and in violation of their powers under the law.

NUNS said that the failure to react by police officers has to be investigated.
