Four members of the Council of the Regulatory Body for Electronic Media have resigned. They did not agree to have the regime impose on them a majority that unquestioningly listens to Vučić

Four newly elected members Council Regulatory body for electronic media in the truncated composition submitted their resignations from those positions on Friday (December 19), as they had previously announced.

The resignations were submitted by Rodoljub Šabić, Mileva Malešević, Ira Prodanov Krajišnik and Dubravka Valić Nedeljković.

At noon on Friday, the deadline given by the four elected independent members of the REM to the Serbian Parliament to repeat the vote and make a choice between the two legally established candidates of the Council of National Minorities expired, so they announced their resignations and submitted them to the Serbian Parliament’s office.

The candidate of the National Council of Albanians, Lumturija Ameti, who was not elected to the REM Council in November, decided on Thursday (December 18) to withdraw from the further election process as a member of the REM Council.

The Committee for Culture and Information of the Serbian Parliament previously selected two other candidates from among national minorities. They are Sreten Jovanović and Ištvan Bodžoni.

Brnabić: Irresponsible towards the citizens of Serbia

The President of the Assembly of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, stated that she was sorry that the four elected members of the REM Council had resigned, adding that it was irresponsible towards the citizens of Serbia and the institutions, but that their decision would be respected and the resignations would be confirmed as soon as possible.

“This is extremely unacceptable to all citizens of Serbia, because the people who resigned were nominated, elected, and when they were elected, they resigned after a month,” said Brnabić at a press conference in the Serbian Parliament.

As she added, she believes that it is also “an indicator of disrespect for institutions, a mockery of processes and institutions that, whether someone likes it or not, reflect the majority will of citizens.”

The process of electing all remaining members of the REM Council, five of them, will continue, added Brnabić.

“We will solve it, we will elect the REM Council and the work will continue,” said Brnabić and explained that there will be a repeat election in five categories.

These are the categories in which the members of the REM Council resigned today, as well as the member of the Council from the category proposed by the national councils of national minorities.

The Saga Around the REM Council

More than a year since the end of the mandate of the previous convocation, on November 12, 2025. a new one was elected, but the truncated REM Council.

The ruling coalition then refused to vote for the Bosniak and Albanian National Council candidates Muhedin Fijuljanin and Ljumturija Ametija, so instead of nine members, eight were elected – four independent and the same number of government candidates.

Two days later, elected REM Council members Rodoljub Šabić, Ira Prodanov Krajišnik, Mileva Malešić and Dubravka Valić Nedeljković announced that they would resign from those positions, because they do not agree to be elected in a process that puts politics above the law.

The four of them announced on Saturday (December 13) that they will officially submit their resignations at noon on December 19 if the Serbian Parliament does not repeat the vote by then and make a choice between the two legally established candidates of the Council of National Minorities.

They previously addressed a public letter to the Committee for Culture and Information of the National Assembly of Serbia, regarding the decision to reject the objection, which, as they stated, would enable the legal and legitimate conclusion of the elections in the ninth area – the area of the proposers from among the national councils – and thus the election of the remaining member who will ensure the legal condition of independence of the REM Council, FoNet previously reported.

Lawyer Rodoljub Šabić said earlier for “Vreme” that the four candidates who offered their resignations will also submit them if the process is not completed according to the law. That’s what happened now.
