Slaps, fists, kicking: Attacks on students and journalists in Novi Sad

At least three people were injured in an attack on students in Novi Sad on the eve of the Matica Srpska academy ceremony

 

Aleksandar Vučić he was supposed to come to Novi Sad, which brought students and citizens to the streets. Nevertheless, at the protest, as many times before, there was violence, because the thugs, who follow the regime in step, also came out to the city. Many of them were recorded, so videos of slapping, head-butting and kicking are just popping up on social networks.

 

Students in the blockade published on the evening of the 16th on their account on the social network X a video of an attack on their colleagues in front of the Serbian National Theater in Novi Sad. One of the videos shows blood pouring from the nose of one of them.

 

Portal 021 reported that there were incidents between demonstrators and government supporters around 20 pm, and as reported by the agencies, at least three people were injured in the incidents that took place tonight in the center of Novi Sad.

 

“They jumped on my colleague, I jumped to defend him, after that the men jumped on me, cursed me, started pushing me, kicking me,” said one female student.

 

The journalist of the Storitel portal Brankica Matić said that a group of students was in front of the theater, when people realized that they were students, they called the police to escort them, but the crowd started attacking them.

 

“When we journalists approached that group, they started attacking us as well. It was very unpleasant, they pinned my colleague Žarko Bogosavljević against the wall, we approached here, the police separated us,” she said.

 

 

Head, hand injuries

 

Beta Agency reported that their reporter was convinced that a young man’s head was injured, and that a girl’s arm was injured. They also point out that journalist Žarko Bogosavljević was hit in the face and that they knocked the phone out of his hand.

 

“The students were there at the plateau and stood the whole time, maybe hoping to attend the centenary of Matica Srpska. They just stood there, there were several inspectors around them because they recognized them. They didn’t even have badges, there were no provocations. They tried to gather,” he said.

 

He pointed out that the journalists were watching them all the time and that it is not clear to him why the mentioned men attacked them.

 

The SNS supporters gathered in front of the SNP previously insulted the citizens of Novi Sad and shouted “Ustaše!”, and the citizens retaliated with “Your hands are bloody”, the agency previously reported.

 

 

Blows to the back of the head

 

Student Inas Hodžić was hit in the head by a man in Novi Sad in front of the police, the Mašina portal announced on social networks.

 

The video shows how an unknown man first stole Hodžić’s phone and how he tells him to return the phone. At that moment, in front of the police, he was hit in the back of the head by a man in a hooded jacket, whose face is clearly visible on the video.

 

The crowd shouted to the police officers to arrest the thug, but they did not react.

 

“We were filming and watching who was coming out. At one point, masked faces came out, one of them stole my phone, started to run away with the phone, I caught him and called the police. The police started to separate and tear me apart, and to let him go with the phone. I didn’t want to let him go, in the end they took his phone, and at that moment one ran into me and hit me in the back of the head,” Hodžić described the whole event.
