Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic denied any involvement in the management changes at United Media earlier this week.
The changes launched by United Group affect N1 and Nova S TV stations, Danas daily and Radar weekly in Belgrade and Vijesti daily in Podgorica.
“The person with more shares dismissed the person with less shares, nothing more,” he said during a visit to eastern Serbia. According to him, “you can always find a reason to shut down a TV station”, adding that he “does not want to do that for the sake of democracy”.
He expressed hope that “a more polite criticism” of the authorites will be present in United Media news outlets following the management changes.
