Mapping Media Freedom alerts for Vucic, Brnabic verbal assaults on N1

The Mapping Media Freedom portal published two media alerts following verbal assaults on N1 by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic.

“Vucic, discredited the independent media outlets N1 and Nova during a public address. N1 was criticised for its reporting on the arrest of war veterans suspected of plotting to overthrow the government and attack on President Vucic. … The President further made repeated accusations that “lies are being spread” on N1 and Nova S, while adding that he has had “1,000 reasons” to shut them down by now, but that he did not want to,” the first alert said.

Brnabic commented N1’s reporting on the arrest of the veterans calling the station a disgrace. “You are a disgrace to the journalistic profession, you cynics, fraudsters and propagandists who couldn’t care less about the truth. She then referred to the article as a “monstrous relativisation […] and indirect protection of those who wish to harm the President of Serbia and his CHILDREN” and said, “We must expose the media blockaders and their ideology of hatred every time”, the second alert said.

Mapping Media Freedom documents press and media freedom violations across Europe. The project is run by the Media Freedom Rapid Response (MFRR).
