The Nezavisnost Union in N1 and Forbes Serbia expressed serious concern over the removal of N1 news director Igor Bozic as legal representative of the media outlet.
“We would like to inform the public da we do not view this as an isolated step but the start of a process which could potentially jeopardize the security of its future work and opens the door to personnel decisions which could affect the news desk,” a statement said.
The union demanded a meeting with management as soon as possible to request guarantees in writing that there is no plan to reduce the number of employees or jeopardize existing editorial independence. “We would like to remind our employer of the obligation to consult unions before thanking any decision about the employment status of staff or the organization of the company,” it added.
The union said it would follow every next step and react to every decision that could endanger the rights of employees, the editorial independence and professional standards that this news desk has been built on for years.
