The “Nezavisnost” Union at N1 and Forbes Serbia has alerted the public that, more than two and a half weeks after requesting a meeting with new director Brent Sadler, an official dialogue between union representatives and management has still not taken place.

The Union said it initially called for an urgent meeting following newsroom changes that have caused significant concern among staff, most notably the removal of Igor Bozic, the newsroom’s top editor who served as the guarantor of editorial independence. His current employment status remains undefined, the union added.

“Due to the director’s commitments, the union agreed to postpone the meeting until after the Easter holidays. However, the appointment that was eventually scheduled was canceled just one day in advance, without an official proposal for a new date. The Union sent another request last Friday for the meeting to be held without further delay, but has not yet received a response,” the union’s statement reads.

Given the growing uncertainty within the newsroom, the union said it believes that open and timely dialogue with employees is essential, particularly regarding issues of work organization, management practices, and the overall status of the staff.

“The union expects the meeting to be held without further delay and for employees to be provided with clear answers on issues vital to their professional work and certainty. Should this fail to happen, the union will consider further steps to protect the rights of employees and the stability of the newsroom,” the statement concluded.
