The Nezavisnost union at N1 and Forbes Serbia said that there was no official statement from management about the reasons for the dismissal of N1 TV newsroom senior editor Igor Bozic.
Bozic’s contract was terminated on Tuesday by mutual agreement.
“Although Branislav Sovljanski, the new head of the editorial team, comes from the newsroom and enjoys staff trust, the newsroom still needs a a clear, official explanation of the reasons for the changes in the station leadership,” a press release said.
The union said that a formal request for a meeting with management was sent almost a month ago, but that the meeting has not happened yet despite repeated calls and the need for a timely and open dialogue with employees to maintain operational stability, trust in the editorial processes, and an understanding of the newsroom’s future organization.
“The union warns that the absence of a clear explanation and institutional communication regarding such important changes could establish a practice in which key decisions in the newsroom remain unexplained and are not communicated to employees, further deepening uncertainty within the staff,” the press release said.
The union claimed that the newsroom was initially informed that the new management’s plan was for Bozic to continue leading the editorial team.
