N1 statement on campaign targeting N1 journalist Zaklina Tatalovic

source: N1

Over the past several days, N1 journalist Zaklina Tatalovic has been the subject of extensive media coverage, focused on her family background. We do not consider this coverage proportionate or relevant to Ms Tatalovic’s professional work.

In view of inaccurate claims in circulation, N1 notes that documentation provided by Ms Tatalovic confirms her descent from the Hajdin family.

N1 acknowledges that, during coverage of the 2025 protests, on-air references were made to Ms Tatalovic’s family background that were not editorially justified. The relevant content was removed from the N1 website at the time but remained accessible elsewhere. N1 regrets that inconsistency and apologizes for it.

N1 separately received private correspondence from a member of the Hajdin family. The correspondence was not published by N1, and no request for publication was made. The correspondence subsequently appeared in other media more than a year later, and the circumstances of that publication are a matter for the outlets concerned.

Some of the conduct directed at Ms Tatalovic in recent days has extended beyond commentary on her editorial work. N1 takes seriously any conduct that places the safety or wellbeing of its journalists at risk.

N1 remains committed to correcting its own errors, applying its editorial standards consistently, and ensuring that its journalists can carry out their work without harassment or intimidation.
