“Mini Caciland” set up in Zrenjanin: N1 reporter targeted with disparaging remarks by ruling party activists

A “mini Caciland,” as locals have dubbed it, has been set up in the city of Zrenjanin. An N1 reporter on Wednesday attempted to speak with activists from the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) at the site, but was met with inappropriate comments, while many others hid from the camera.

The name “Caciland” refers to a fenced-off pro-regime tent camp located in Pioneer’s Park, outside the Serbian Parliament and the Presidency buildings in central Belgrade, which has been in place since March 2025.

For several days, a standoff has been ongoing in Zrenjanin between SNS activists and members of the general public supporting student protesters.

On one side of the road stands the tent camp described by locals as a “mini Caciland,” featuring umbrellas inscribed with “AV” (Aleksandar Vucic) and a group of SNS supporters, N1’s reporter said.

Across the street, people are gathered with banners reading “Students Win.” They hold a sign saying “Honk for the students,” a call to action that many passing drivers have answered. Stickers with the “Students Win” slogan are also being handed out and picked up by a large number of residents.

According to the N1 reporter, the two groups are not in contact, and there have been no physical clashes.

N1 tried to interview the SNS activists to ask why they were there.

“You’re asking why we’re here? I’m here for my president. I’m Branislav Lazic, and I came from the village of Botos. I came from Serbia, I was one of the founders of the Serbian Guard… I came here to explain that our hands aren’t bloody, that the country is developing, and that our president has a vision,” said the man, who introduced himself as the president of the Botos local community for 20 years.

One man began filming the reporter and refused to say why he was doing that. In the background, comments such as “mercenaries” and “Solak’s TV” (referring to the minority shareholder of United Group) could be heard, though it was unclear who specifically made the remarks. Other activists intentionally hid their faces from the camera.

N1’s reporter said she was targeted with inappropriate comments, such as: “We see you’re a young woman; you should give birth to at least three little Serbs.”
