The deputy chief of Serbia’s electronic media regulator (REM) said that the pro-regime Informer TV would be included in the media monitoring during the campaign for the October 25 parliamentary elections.
Ira Prodanov Krajisnik told the FoNet news agency that the monitoring is due to start next Monday. “I expect that Informer will be under monitoring for sure along with one or two more broadcasters,” she said. Informer is viewed as the fiercest defender of the regime.
The REM Council (the managing body of what is supposed to be the independent regulatory body) went back to work after a long break earlier this week with the election of a president and deputy president (Stevica Smederevac and Prodanov Krajisnik respectively). The REM Council decided to monitor 11 TV broadcasters 24/7 during the campaign and elections. Just 4 stations are being monitored for now (state TV RTS 2 channels, state Radio TV Vojvodina (RTV) 2 channels, pro-regime TV Pink, Prva TV, Hepi TV and the cable channels N1, Nova S and K1).
REM Council members have said that the monitoring should include Insajder TV and the pro-regime Kurir.
