About 10.000 accounts followed the Instagram profile of the Mašina portal, which claims that it is a bot attack. The media say that the attack is still ongoing and that it is not known whether the account will be taken down.
The Mašina portal announced that its Instagram account was today the target of what they say was a coordinated “bot attack”, during which the account was followed by around 10.000 new accounts in a short period of time.
“Today, a large number of accounts followed Mashina’s account on Instagram in a short period of time. The bot attack is still ongoing, it is not known whether they will be able to take down the account,” said Mashina.
From that portal, they estimate that the aim of the sudden influx of followers may be to cause a reaction of Instagram’s systems and consequently shut down or temporarily suspend the account.
Mašina states that similar cases have not happened for the first time and that previously the accounts of blocked students, photographers and independent media were targeted.
“Under a similar attack were the accounts of students in the blockade, photographers and independent media, which were temporarily suspended due to the attack,” the announcement states.
The portal sees the case as pressure on independent media and warns of the consequences that such attacks can have on their work on social networks.
