The AFP news agency said that a number of fake screenshots of false news on the N1 and Nova S portals were posted on social media by Serbian ruling party (SNS) supporters.
According to AFP, the fake screenshots were posted after President Aleksandar Vucic called for a dialogue with the students who have been protesting against corruption and the government for months. “SNS supporters shared fake screenshots of alleged articles from the N1 and Nova S website on social media with inaccurate claims about the offer of a dialogue and the protests,” it said.
AFP said that one of the screenshots of fake news reports showed tennis player Novak Djokovic saying he supports the president’s offer of a dialogue while another said that the protesting students threatened to block all the schools in the country. It said that the posts came with comments supporting Vucic and offensive comments about the protesters.
The news agency said that the editors of the N1 and Nova S portals confirmed that the screenshots were fake news.
AFP quoted SNS official Aleksandra Markovic who wrote in a Facebook post that it took Djokovic a long time to realize that dialogue is better than war.
