Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Serbia Andreas von Beckerath said on Thursday evening that independent media serve as public watchdogs by holding those in power accountable, which is why he expects the authorities to swiftly investigate verbal and physical threats and attacks against journalists.
“Hosted a meeting on safety of journalists. Independent media are public watchdogs, holding those in power accountable,” von Beckerath wrote in a post on X following a meeting between EU member state ambassadors to Serbia and representatives of the media community.
“We expect authorities to swiftly follow up on verbal and physical threats and attacks and publicly condemn any such cases,” said von Beckerath.
