The Brussels-based Balkan Free Media Initiative (BFMI) condemned the efforts of the ruling party in Serbia to silence and discredit independent journalists and media, adding that pressure by the government is escalating.
This organization said that, in response to 100 days of student protests in Serbia “calling for rule of law,” the ruling party has “intensified its efforts to target and discredit independent media, attempting to silence journalists who report on the demonstrations.”
The BFMI condemned the government’s growing attacks on press freedom.
“Smearing and pressuring journalists is a deliberate strategy to control the narrative and suppress public debate. We stand with independent media and support the demand for Rule of Law in Serbia,” the BFMI said in a post on X.
