BIRODI: Students’ given 1, president 23 minutes on state TV

The Serbian state TV (RTS) coverage of the student initiative to collect signatures in support of early elections was given just one minute on Sunday’s news with more than 23 minutes of air time for President Vucic’s activities, the BIRODI social research NGO said on Tuesday.

It said that Vucic was given coverage which included his statements on the air at the Caciland regime supporter enclosure where tents were replaced with a Christmas fair. BIRODI said he spoke as a member of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) but was presented as the president.

BIRODI said that the main evening news and a later news program reported indirectly on the student initiative without any statements. Those reports did not even say how many stands were put up to collect signatures or where. BIRODI said that the reports lied about the initiative being launched to gauge the support for a student list of candidates for coming elections. It said that the RTS reporting violated the parts of the constitution which guarantee the right to truthful, complete and timely information.
