Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic dismissed an N1 report about payments to attend last weekend’s Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) rally in Belgrade as nonsense.
N1 reporters attended the rally at the Belgrade Arena on Saturday evening and witnessed payments being made to people in crowd who were bussed in to attend the rally. Their report was aired on N1.
“I really didn’t see what you proved,” Brnabic, a senior SNS official, told an N1 crew in parliament. Hers is the first reaction from the authorities to the revelations by N1.
“I think that’s absolutely stupid and I think it’s an insult for all the people who you have accused of being paid for years and years. You can’t bribe people,” Brnabic said. She replied with skepticism to the fact that N1 reporters were paid at the rally along with a large number of people in the crowd. “Is that really possible? Maybe you asked the person handing out the money to give you some,” she said.
