On behalf of the member organizations, we would like to invite you to mark International Human Rights Day with us. The event will take place on Friday, December 13, 2024, starting at 11 a.m., at the Human Rights House and Democracy, 4, Kneza Miloša Street, Belgrade.

The state of human rights in Serbia is a cause for growing concern, as it continues to deteriorate each year. Numerous challenges and threats undermine and violate human rights, while the response from competent institutions is often inadequate. Combined with persistently high social tensions, these issues severely impact the prospects for democratic development in our country.

Human Rights Day provides an opportunity to reflect on these pressing issues and to underline the importance of collective efforts in advocating for a democratic and open society rooted in European values, the rule of law, justice, and solidarity. During the event, we will also address the concluding observations of the United Nations Human Rights Committee regarding Serbia’s Fourth Periodic Report on the implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Key topics of discussion will include freedom of assembly and expression, the position of vulnerable groups in Serbia, and electoral rights.

As part of the program, the Human Rights House will continue its tradition of awarding recognition to individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the promotion and protection of human rights over the past year. The official languages of the conference will be Serbian and English, with simultaneous translation provided. We hope you will join us for this important occasion as we work together to address the pressing human rights challenges in Serbia.
