The “Dušan Bogavac” journalism award for ethics and courage will be presented to this year’s winner, Tamara Skrozza, a FoNet journalist, on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 1 p.m., in the Belgrade Media Center.
The award is given by the Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (IJAS) and the “Dušan Bogavac” Foundation.
In the explanation of the jury’s decision, it was stated: “For almost three decades, Tamara Skrozza defends the basic postulates of journalism with her uncompromising, honorable and professional work, from her beginnings at Radio Indeks, through two decades of writing for the weekly Vreme, to her involvement in Cenzolovka, and then FoNet.” This is evidenced by the numerous awards she has earned so far for her texts, as well as the courage and dignity shown in the defense of professional and civil values”.
The jury especially emphasizes her enormous contribution to the establishment and work of the Press Council and the long-standing principled struggle for compliance with the norms of the Serbian Journalists’ Code of Ethics.
This year, Bojana Jovanović, KRIK journalist, Radmilo Marković (BIRN), Vladimir Kostić (CINS) and Aleksandar Đorđević (BIRN) were also shortlisted for the “Dušan Bogavac” award.
Previous award winners Snežana Čongradin and Saša Dragojlo, as well as Branka Bogavac and Filip Mladenović on behalf of the “Dušan Bogavac” Foundation, and Željko Bodrožić, president of IJAS, participated in the work of the jury.
The “Dušan Bogavac” Foundation was founded in 1991 in memory of the honest and brave journalist Dušan Bogavac (1931 – 1990), who at the end of the 1980s openly advocated for democracy and freedom of expression and founded the Solidarity Fund for Threatened Journalists. The award for ethics and courage “Dušan Bogavac” has been awarded since 1991, and since 1994, together with the Foundation, the award has been co-founded by IJAS.
