Citizens’ initiatives: Gross violation of the law in the REM council election process

“By including nine new proposers in the vote on candidates for the REM Council, the expert service of the Serbian Parliament grossly violated the law and the credibility of the process,” Citizen Initiatives pointed out.

 

Civic initiatives they announced on Tuesday that the decision of the expert service National Assembly to include nine new proposers in the vote on candidates for the Council of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) is a gross violation of the law and the credibility of the process.

 

“By including nine new proposers in the vote on candidates for the Council.” of REM, the expert service acted contrary to the report of the Committee published on October 14, 2025, and thus grossly violated the law and the credibility of the process,” Citizen Initiatives pointed out.

 

It was stated that he was at a meeting of the harmonization of the National Councils national minorities, the professional service made it possible for national councils that did not participate in the previous process to vote.

 

“In this group of authorized proposers, candidates were proposed by: the Bosniak National Council, the Albanian National Council and the National Council of the Hungarian National Minority. At the meeting held earlier today, nine more national councils were illegally invited to vote, which did not initially propose their candidates and did not participate in the process and therefore do not have the right to vote,” it was pointed out.

 

 

Cancel illegitimate ballots

 

Civic initiatives pointed out that in the very invitation sent to the National Councils, the National Assembly stated that one representative should be sent to the reconciliation meeting for three authorized proposers, and not for the twelve who voted in total at the end.

 

“In that way, the integrity of the procedure was directly violated and it was possible for a candidate to be elected.” National Council of the Hungarian national minority, István Bodžoni. This violated the Law on Electronic Media, since, according to the current rules, only the candidates Muhedin Fijuljanin and Lumturija Ameti, who received the most votes in this group of three authorized proposers, had a legitimate number of votes,” it was stated.

 

It was assessed that “it is completely illegal to involve proposers who have not proposed their candidates at this stage of the process.”

 

“We demand that in this category the illegitimate ballots be annulled and the candidates who won the largest number of votes from legitimate proponents, namely Muhedin Fijuljanin and Lumturija Ameti, be declared successful,” stated the Civic Initiatives.
