The Higher Court in Belgrade issued an injunction against Zeljko Mitrovic and PINK Media Group, forbidding them from airing, rerunning, or otherwise distributing a video created using artificial intelligence, known as a “deepfake,” that falsely depicts Dragan Djilas, the leader of the opposition Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP).
In a written statement, Djilas said that, “In a country where a ‘deepfake’ government exists, where a ‘deepfake’ leadership runs a constant disinformation campaign against anyone who dares to expose the essence of the corrupt regime, there are still individuals with the professional and personal courage to stand up against this dictatorship of lies and deceit.”
He stressed that this ban is significant as it shows there are limits to what this government can do, and that the biggest opponents of this regime are truth, personal and professional ethics and integrity.
Djilas added that just as the barred Zeljko Mitrovic and Pink TV from further misuse, this corrupt regime will also be prevented from mining lithium, selling Serbian territory, and violating the human rights of Serbian citizens.
