Curuvija Foundation reports 154 verbal assaults on journalists

The Slavko Curuvija Foundation said on Monday that it recorded 154 verbal assaults on journalists by politicians in November.

It said that 44 of those verbal assaults came from ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) MP Nebojsa Bakarec (44) and President Aleksandar Vucic (18). A statement said that 36 high-ranking state officials and MPs verbally assaulted journalists. Those include SNS MP Vladimir Djukanovic (17) and Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic (10).

The foundation said those verbal assaults were intended to discredit critical media and journalists who were accused of spreading false news and bias. Those media were called foreign agents, hate producers, blockader media, colored revolution bulletins, Solak Media machinery and other things.

Most of the assaults were over daily political issues (58), parliament sessions (55), protests (17), the Caciland regime supporter tent camp in front of parlaiment (12).

It said that media critical of the authorities were labeled criminals and were accused of tax evasion and siphoning money out of the country.
