Danas daily said on Monday that one of its journalists was summoned to a Novi Sad police station for an interrogation ordered by prosecutors.
Journalist Ugljesa Bokic received the summons to appear at the police station on December 25 for questioning over the publication of excerpts of a police report on the arrest of Novi Sad lawyer Nemanja Aleksic last April on the Danas portal. Aleksic filed criminal charges against persons unknown for violation of confidentiality.
Danas quoted unnamed prosecution sources who said the police have been ordered to ask Bokic who handed him the report and when, whether he still has it and to instruct him to hand it to the police if he does. The summons said he would be arrested if he fails to appear.
Danas said the prosecution’s order is unacceptable pressure on its staff and free journalism, especially since the law on public information and the national journalists’ code journalists are not obliged to reveal their sources unless ordered by a court if the information is about crimes.
Danas is part of United Media along with N1, Nova and Radar weekly.
