Traditionally, Serbia also spends this Saturday protesting.
In Belgrade, there are simultaneous protests in two parts of the city, on the Republic Square in front of the National Theater and in front of the TV Informer building, the citizens’ assemblies of Novi Sad are on the “Freedom March”, in Kraljevo a protest of educators is being organized, and in Užice there will be a forum where panelists will talk about activism, solidarity, cooperation and connecting free digital media.
Zero for culture
On the Republic Square, there is a citizen’s protest in culture “Zero for Culture”, which was called by the employees of the National Theater.
The theme and reason for the gathering is the fulfillment of previous demands (withdrawal of the new Rulebook on Labor Discipline, one of the provisions of which prohibits employees of the national theater from expressing their political commitment in any way, the immediate dismissal of the Board of Directors led by Dragoslav Bokan, as well as for the Government of Serbia to review the work of the Minister of Culture, Nikola Selaković), but also the question – who bothers culture.
The meeting discussed the consequences of the fact that Serbia allocates 0,67 percent for its culture, so less than 1 percent, which is the minimum recommended by UNESCO.
A letter of support was read from the Association of Dramatic Artists of Serbia, which completely stood by its colleagues from the National Theatre.
Nikita Milivojević, the director and director of Shakespeare Fest, who did not win a dinar in the competition of the Ministry of Culture this year, pointed out that “the question of artistic freedom is actually a question of dignity” and that “we should not allow anyone to convince us that two and two equal five.”
Milena Đorđijević from the National Library of Serbia compared the National Theater, which is closed under the pretext of rebuilding fire protection devices, and the NBS building, which is being undermined due to the construction of a three-story garage.
The meeting demanded the resignation of Minister Nikola Selaković.
See you, Dragan.
The students of FPN and the choirs of the Braće Jerković neighborhood called the meeting “Let’s see each other again, Dragan” after Dragan J. Vučićević on TV Informer called the victims of the fall of the canopy in Novi Sad “the tent of the victims” almost a year ago. The participants gave Vučićević one hour to publicly apologize for those words.
At the beginning of the protest, Vučićević was on the roof of the building and insulted the participants, and the songs of Little Knindža could be heard from the yard.
The building is secured by the police.
The time allotted to Dragan J. Vučićević was counted down on the video beam. He didn’t apologize.
After that, parts of TV Informer’s previous reporting programs were broadcast on the video beam.
Novi Sad
The “Freedom March” moved from the Freedom Bridge to the Railway Station, where 16 people died on November 1 last year, when the canopy of the renovated station building collapsed on them.
A thematic program was held at each of the five intersections along the Liberation Boulevard where the motorcade moved.
The media reports that several thousand people gathered.
Royally
Professor Jovo Bakić, from the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, gave an incendiary speech at the protest in Kraljevo and promised that the criminals will not get away, that everyone will be imprisoned and that in the middle of winter, the working temperature will be raised, which will melt the criminal regime.
We gathered to say – You can poison, you can suffocate, you can also beat – it won’t help you, because we are a people!”.
“We who stand under this monument, on the Square of the Serbian Warriors, the blood of the warriors of Serbia boils in us. Our ancestors knew about the freedom to die, and we, if we have to, will. There is no force of organized crime that can oppose the people. We are the people and I ask you – Who are you? We are the people, no matter what religion we are, what ethnicity we are, we are the people of Serbia, and sovereignty lies with us, not with criminals,” Bakić said..
