The editorial board of the Serbian state TV (RTS) said on Friday that its staff are under enormous pressure from the protests which, a statement said, showed the importance of the public broadcaster.
An open letter called everyone to refrain from seizing the RTS.
It claimed that RTS journalists and editors and their families have been lynched, humiliated, targeted, labeled and demeaned in public adding that its staff will be protected.
Our power and strength lie in the fact that we are the only television station in Serbia and the only place in Serbia where two opposing sides can converse, the letter said adding that the power of the RTS lies in impartiality.
It said public officials viewed RTS staff as accomplices in the colored revolution and anti-state and anti-system elements that must be dealt with and that the opposition thinks the public broadcaster is a propaganda megaphone for the ruling elite that must be liberated and purged.
“For some students, particularly those from fields like the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, whose productions RTS generously finances, and who, by the nature of their vocation, are likely to continue their family business at this television, RTS should not be infiltrated solely „for hygienic reasons“.
“For a segment of the public, the RTS is a staged theater and for other media houses, the RTS is a place of small personal dreams and large campaigns.
The letter comes after student protests in front of the RTS headquarters and the posting of a death notice for the truth at the entrance to its headquarters.
