During the protest in Novi Sad on Wednesday evening, a member of the Serbian gendarmerie threatened to arrest an N1 news crew over their use of a spotlight, said N1’s reporter Mladen Savatovic.
Savatovic said the gendarme approached his cameraman and ordered him to turn off the spotlight, saying that “it is forbidden to direct a light source at members of the gendarmerie.”
When Savatovic explained that they were just doing their job and that the spotlight was necessary for reporting in the dark, the officer responded by saying that they had been issued a warning.
“He was extremely unpleasant and said, ‘You will be arrested,’” Savatovic recounted.
