Cloudflare, a key provider of Internet infrastructure, suffered a global outage that paralyzed many services, including X and ChatGPT. Users around the world have been reporting “500 Internal Server Error” errors, while the company is working hard to fix the problem, the Guardian reports.

On Tuesday, November 18, Cloudflare, one of the Internet’s most important infrastructure companies, experienced a severe global outage that disrupted many popular services — including social network X (formerly Twitter), ChatGPT and others.

Users around the world reported errors type “500 Internal Server Error”, while Cloudflare confirmed that it is working on fixing the problem, writes the British Guardian.

According to the report, the outage was registered around 11:20 a.m., when Cloudflare saw an unusual spike in traffic, which led to the outage.

The company said it began the recovery process at around 12:21 p.m., but users are still experiencing problems accessing a number of sites.

Cloudflare says that engineers are working to fix the problem, to ensure that the normal flow of Internet traffic is restored, and then to determine the exact cause of the unusual spike in requests.

Following similar incidents, experts are once again pointing to the risk of over-dependence on the Internet from just a few large service providers, the Guardian concludes.

Cloudflare is one of the key infrastructures of the modern Internet – it provides protection against cyber attacks, speeds up the loading of websites and allows them to remain available even when they have a huge number of visitors.
