N1 News Director Igor Bozic emphasized that media freedoms do exist in Serbia – but exclusively for those who are part of the government’s propaganda apparatus.
“While some demonstrate remarkable efficiency in including pro-government channels in their offers, others just as quickly remove independent media. SBB expanded its channel lineup in record time – and we welcome that. However, at the same time, Net TV Plus, owned by Telekom Srbija, chose to remove N1 and Nova from its service, which further confirms the selective approach to media freedoms,” Bozic said.
He emphasized that it is particularly concerning that Yettel, which previously sought exclusive rights for distributing N1 and Nova, is now unable to make a simple adjustment to its programming lineup to include these channels. “This only reinforces the narrative that companies like PPF and Etisalat, rather than consistently upholding European standards of pluralism and media freedom, are actually supporting a model of media control that aligns with authoritarian practices,” stressed the N1 director noted.
He added that such actions clearly indicate that media freedoms in Serbia exist – but only for those who are part of the government’s propaganda machinery.
