IJAS: Glišić Endangers the Safety of KRIK Journalists and Attempts to Discredit Them Through Insults and Falsehoods

The Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (IJAS) strongly condemns the attacks made by Minister for Public Investments, Darko Glišić, against the journalists of the KRIK newsroom during his appearance on Happy TV. Glišić’s accusations that KRIK “collaborates with the Kavač criminal clan,” along with a series of insults and misogynistic remarks aimed at female journalists, constitute a blatant targeting of media professionals, further endangering their safety and hindering their ability to work.

Particularly alarming is the minister’s attempt to criminalize investigative journalism by labeling KRIK a “mouthpiece of the Kavač clan,” thereby directly targeting a newsroom that has for years reported professionally and with evidence on the assets of public officials and their ties to controversial figures. Instead of addressing questions of public interest, Glišić resorts to dangerous disqualifications and offensive language toward journalists.

IJAS reminds the public that KRIK journalists, in accordance with professional standards, attempted to obtain a statement from Minister Glišić before publishing their story on his assets and those of his former partner. The minister refused all contact and blocked their calls. His subsequent accusations that the female journalists are “voyeurs” asking intimate questions is a textbook case of intimidation and an attempt to distract from the facts uncovered by reporters.

We call on all public officials to refrain from discrediting and insulting journalists and to respond to journalistic inquiries, which is their legal obligation. Media appearances must not be used to spread disinformation or incite public hostility.

We also urge the competent institutions to investigate the statements made during the broadcast, particularly those that raise concerns journalists may have been followed—an act that could represent a serious violation of their rights.

IJAS expresses full support for KRIK and all journalists who conduct professional and courageous investigative reporting, despite the pressures they face. Media freedom and the public’s right to know must not fall victim to political power and intimidation.
