Journalists, editors, staff at Nova and Radar form union

Journalists, editors, and other staff members from the Nova portal and daily, as well as the weekly Radar, have announced the formation of a labor union as part of the UGS “Nezavisnost” (Independence) trade union confederation. Their primary goal, they said, is to fight for professional integrity, the public interest, and truthful, objective reporting – responsibilities mandated by the Law on Public Information and the Journalists’ Code of Ethics.

Citing the current state of the Serbian media landscape, the government’s attitude toward independent media, and the reported potential sale of outlets within the newly formed Adria News Network (ANN), the Nova and Radar journalists declared that they would not accept any form of censorship. They emphasized that editorial policy must not be dictated from outside the newsroom and vowed to resist any political or external pressure aimed at hiding or softening the truth for the public.

“We also pledge to inform the public, journalists’ associations, and relevant authorities, as well as international organizations, of any such attempt. Additionally, one of the union’s goals is to sign a collective bargaining agreement with the owner, whoever they may be, which would define the rights and obligations of both the employees and the employer,” their statement added.
