Vice President of the European Commission (EC) for Values and Transparency Vera Jourova said she is aware of the latest video campaign targeting independent journalists in Serbia and emphasized that the EC and her cabinet strongly condemn such attacks.
“The European Union condemns any attacks or threats against journalists,” said Jourova in response to a question from N1’s European correspondent.
She promised that her cabinet and the European Commission will be following the situation in Serbia and will react by strongly condemning any attack.
“The situation when journalists are named as public enemies by politicians always leads to increased intensity of threats and violence online, and in some cases it also spills over to real violence,” said Jourova.
She said a detailed assessment of the state of media freedom in Serbia was presented in last year’s report on Serbia and included recommendations to the authorities.
