It is not known what Manja Grcic will do to the position of public service director, but it is known what the authorities will do to Manja Grcic in that position. Elections are coming and everything should be weighted down, say “Vremena” sources.
Those who know her say she is a “hit man” journalism in direct contact with President Aleksandar Vučić. Those who are yet to meet her, as director of RTS, are afraid that they will public service fall even lower.
Will this be a new role, after cutting heads on B92 and the dubious deal with Tanjug? Less Grcic in media switching?
“Vreme” writes about this in the new issue, which is on newsstands from Thursday (February 19). Grcic did not want to speak for our weekly because, she says, “it was incorrect”.
Those RTS journalists who spoke to “Vreme” expect either “nothing” or “beheadings”. The first variant – “nothing” – is possible since in the RTS news program, everyone already “knows their job” and what is allowed.
“Loyalist” at the head of the news
But, our sources say, it can always get worse. The new head of the news program is Bojana Mlađenović, who is said to be in direct contact with Vučić’s media advisor Suzana Vasiljević.
“She is a journalist from the sixth division, but a loyalist. After all, now everyone knows what they have to do – anyway, the information program was taken over by a suitable team that arrived from Tanjug. Actually, it now came down to the Čaci and those Ertees residents who have been living there for decades. There are no people who would say that something can’t be done,” says one interlocutor who did not want to be named.
Maybe there will be a real managerial job for Manja Grcic at RTS with around 2.500 employees and who knows how many freelancers, with huge external productions that cost a lot.
“She is ideal because she has no mercy. If the operation is to fire who knows how many employees, she will do it without a problem. If some productions need to be expelled, she will do it without mercy,” says one person who knows her.
Elections are coming.
If Manja Grcic answered the calls of “Vremena”, one of the questions would be what this will do for her in life. The official salary cannot be a motive, it is small money for the dimensions of a woman who is the co-owner and director of several media outlets.
But one can guess what Manja Grcic in RTS will do to the authorities. “There are elections,” reminds one interlocutor from RTS.
Everything is covered by the media. N1 and Nova S are on the way to pacification. Progressives buy even the smallest media in areas where local elections are held. The few independents are drowning.
RTS did not deviate from the regime’s line, the interlocutor reminds, “but at least that scum from Informer and criminals are not allowed on television.” Until now.
