Several media associations have called for a protest outside the Serbian Presidency building in central Belgrade this Wednesday to condemn the attacks on journalists that took place during the March 29 local elections held in ten municipalities.
The organizations stated that the demonstration is intended to show solidarity with colleagues targeted on March 29 and to highlight the increasingly dangerous conditions for journalists working in the field.
“Attacks on journalists are not isolated incidents, they are a systematic assault on the public’s right to know. A society in which journalists are targets of violence is not a free society, but becomes a place of fear, silence, and impunity,” the groups said in a joint press release.
