N1 strongly condemns the physical assault on our cameraman that took place in a village near the town of Kosjeric while he was on the job.
We demand that the relevant state authorities immediately identify the perpetrators and initiate appropriate legal proceedings against them – without delay, without excuses, and without institutional protection. What is particularly worrying is that the leader of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), Milos Vucevic, was present during the attack yet failed to react in any way.
This attack is not just an isolated incident – it is the result of years-long, organized and systematic campaign targeting independent media in Serbia, particularly N1 TV. This campaign is waged by the government led by the Serbian Progressive Party and Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic, who seize every opportunity to label journalists doing their jobs professionally as “enemies of the state”.
Such rhetoric is broadcast on a daily basis through media outlets with national reach, creating an atmosphere of hostility and inciting intolerance toward journalists working in the public interest.
We warn that every unpunished attack serves as encouragement for the next. N1 will not back down from truthful, impartial, and responsible reporting, but we make it clear once again: the responsibility for journalists’ safety lies with this country’s institutions—and no one can escape that responsibility.
