N1’s editorial staff has identified two websites that could mislead citizens into believing they are N1.
One, at n1.cmsassets.com, unlawfully copies N1’s content as well as material from agencies to which N1 subscribes. The portal looks identical to N1, with the difference being its URL. N1 has taken steps regarding the matter.
Another website, n1rs.info, has a similar address to N1 but different content, with published articles leading to news aggregators or other sources.
The Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) has warned that fake and cloned news portals are automatically copying content from professional newsrooms and publishing it on domains that could mislead audiences. N1 is the latest target, it said, after the creation of a site called Vesti Vreme, which copied the name and visual identity of the weekly Vreme.
ANEM said the cloned N1 site, n1rs.info, automatically republishes content from several websites, including Nova.rs and ANEM members, mixing independent media content with articles from tabloids.
It warned that cloning professional and critical media could represent another mechanism of political control during the election campaign, by confusing audiences and undermining media credibility.
