N1’s Maja Nikolic received a regional TV journalism award on Tuesday which is presented for exceptional achievements in the field.
The Gordana Susa regional award was set up in memory of that Serbian TV journalist by the Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (NUNS) and its partner organizations in Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2022.
“Maja Nikolic drew attention with her talent and commitment from the start and has proved herself over the past 10 years at N1 TV in varied and complex TV formats with her high level of professionalism, ethics and courage as well as her authentic, recognizable style,” the jury statement said recalling that she won awards for investigative journalism.
Nikolic told the ceremony that the award is special because it is regional and added that the moment is specific because the region has been united again by protesting students “who have defeated the hatred and darkness of the 1990s that the governments of the region kept us in, especially the one here. Some media lie openly and take part in propaganda, others keep quiet about reality or just mention parts of it. N1 reports reality virtually 24 hours a day which is why I am proud of my N1 for the past 10 years and especially the past 3 months. I am devoting this award to my colleague journalists and to the equally important videographers, all of them out in the field day and night so that the public won’t be afraid of the dark,” she said.
