OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Jan Braathu condemned recent attacks on Serbian journalists and their family members, adding that there is no security without media freedom.
“The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media deplores the threats and attacks against journalists of Radar and Beta News Agency, including the individual targeting of journalists such as Milan Radonjic, and their families, including the son of Dinko Gruhonjic,” an X post said.
It added that the safety of journalists in the course of their work should be the concern of citizens and institutions alike.
“We call on authorities to investigate and prosecute those responsible. Differences of political opinion can in no way justify threats, intimidation or violence.
Freedom of expression and safety of journalists must be upheld,” the post said.
“OSCE RFOM Jan Braathu takes note of the condemnation of attacks against journalists as expressed earlier by President Aleksandar Vucic, and expects that this is respected in the time ahead, in keeping with commitments made under OSCE Ministerial Council Decision 3/18 on the Safety of Journalists,” the post said.
