Student protesters and citizens gathered outside the Serbian state TV (RTS) building in central Belgrade on Wednesday evening after students called, on social media, for a rally to tell the RTS that “it’s not nice to lie on the evening news.”

The protest was organized because, according to the student protesters, the RTS evening news broadcast reported that several educational institutions had ended their blockades.

The crowd outside the RTS building chanted “Pump it!” which is one of the protest slogans, “It’s not nice to lie,” “We continue the blockades,” and they whistled in protest.

The students emphasized that their protest continues and that it will end only once all student demands are met.

RTS issues retraction

In its late-night news program, the RTS issued a retraction of the information that had prompted the students and citizens to stage a protest rally.

The late news show said that the students had refuted information from the evening news broadcast and confirmed that all the mentioned higher education institutions remain under blockade.

The protest ended around midnight.
