Belgrade University students called for a protest on Wednesday evening following the arrest and beating of student Aleksa Stankovic by riot police on Tuesday night.
Stankovic, a news photographer for a student protal, told N1 that he was grabbed, thrown into a police van and beaten for some 10 minutes. He said the police accused him of publishing a video of police officers verbally abusing girls at a protest.
Students from Stankovic’s School of Philosophy called for a protest in Belgrade’s central Student Square at 6pm.
The School of Philosophy students in blockade said this was not the first time students and reporters have been assaulted adding that this was “an extremelly important example of the brutality of the defenders of the regime which we should never forget”.
