Olivera Zekic, spokesperson for the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM), told FoNet on Wednesday that, in line with the procedures and deadlines, the election of new REM Council members can be expected in the first half of July.
Commenting on the objections that opposition parties have raised regarding the nomination of certain candidates for Council membership and the relaunch of the competition for their selection, Zekic said that REM has nothing to do with this and that everything is in the hands of Serbia’s Parliament.
She said that “REM receives a finished product, it gets already elected Council members.”
The REM Council has nine members who are elected by the Serbian Parliament, based on proposals from authorized nominators.
Once the Parliament elects the REM Council members, they select the leadership of that body by a two-thirds majority.
